Welcome to the Labrador Lowdown!

As you probably gathered if you have perused my site, I am pretty devoted to my Labradors and dogs in general. It's not just a hobby; it's a passion, a lifestyle.  It's a part of what makes me, me. I don't drive a minivan because they are cool, I drive one for the dog's comfort and safety!

Labradors have opened up doors in my life I never thought possible. While on this journey, I have learned a thing or two.  I strive to continue to learn; my curiosity regarding this breed is endless.

That brings me to the purpose of this blog.  As of 3/30/21, the Labrador has just celebrated its 30th year as the number one registered breed with American Kennel Club.  It occurred to me that there is a definite lack of understanding of the breed, its origins, and where it fits into modern-day society amongst the general public.  It is a problem among long-time fanciers as well.  Everyone knows what a Labrador is, but they don't know what a Labrador is.

Many sources aimed at Labradors I have run across, do not contain well-researched and documented information.  They are written as a cursory overview.  And while that might be fine in general terms, it leaves out a great deal of what makes a Labrador a Labrador. These supposed experts are anything but.

I feel the breed is owed more than that. This blog is my effort to educate the masses about Labradors; as told by someone who has dedicated my life to it.  I don't have all the answers, but as I continue my efforts to educate myself, I want to share with others what I learn. I hope it will be a legacy of sorts to future Labrador fanciers who will come after me, no matter their involvement with the breed.

I hope you will enjoy the journey alongside me.  I hope you will learn something new.  I hope you will laugh at the goofy moments I share and cry your heart out at the touching ones.  That's all part of the journey when you share your life with a Labrador Retriever.
